I have had really good experiences with MaxFactor mascaras in the past and have been on a bit of a mission to try out all offerings from the brand so I can choose a favourite. I have heard great things about the 2000 Calorie mascara and so it has been on my wishlist for quite a while. I already loved the fact that it said ‘dramatic volume’ on the tube as that is exactly what I look for in a mascara.
The brush is very standard with black bristles but the shape did look promising. Usually this type lends itself to creating volume. It is available in two colours; black and brown/black but I obviously opted for the black.

Now this mascara actually doesn’t boast a million different promises – only one – dramatic volume. To be honest, I think it fails. Its actual claim is 300% more volume versus bare lashes. Hmm…don’t think so. If anything my lashes just look a little separated.
In all I was actually really disappointed with this mascara. Despite my good luck with other MaxFactor offerings, this was just so ‘meh’. I only ever open one mascara at a time because of their short shelf life so I will use this to the end but every time I do use it I am left feeling a little cold. It doesn’t flake or smudge or crumble throughout the day and is easy enough to remove. It is definitely NOT waterproof in any way. I had a little cry wearing it one day and it left giant black streaks all down my face. However if this is something you worry about, there is a waterproof version available. There is also a ‘Volume and Curl’ edition which I would be hesitant to try after my disappointment in this product.
